Produce high-quality Blu-ray discs for less

Epson Discproducer PP-50BD is ideal for archiving large data volumes

Building on the success of its Discproducer range, Epson announces the Discproducer PP-50BD: an affordable Blu-ray model aimed at users creating up to 400 discs per month for archiving or publishing. Offering a blend of quality and economy, the PP-50BD is reliable and easy to operate, providing high-quality Blu-ray disc, CD and DVD output at low cost.

Fully automated, the PP-50BD allows users to work on other tasks while it produces up to 50 discs and more than 2TB of data in one batch, and can burn up to three single-layer Blu-ray discs in an hour. As Blu-ray is an inexpensive yet dependable format for long-term data storage, the PP-50BD is perfect for archiving large files and backing up data.

The PP-50BD delivers high-quality, photo-realistic printing on the CD/DVD/BD surface. Epson’s Micro Piezo printhead and 6-colour inks produce ultra-fine colour gradations and razor-sharp text, even in very small font sizes. Depending on the printed image, one set of ink cartridges produces more than 1,000 fully-covered discs – and when a cartridge becomes empty, the PP-50BD automatically stops to avoid mis-prints.

Leonard Beckmann, product manager for Epson Europe, says: “The tens of thousands of Epson Discproducers already installed have demonstrated their reliability in various sectors, including medicine, education, entertainment and marketing, as well as the duplication industry. The PP-50BD now offers the same great value for money to the archiving sector. While the output quality is outstanding, the cost of each finished disc or the cost per archived Gigabyte is extremely low. When using recommended single and double-layer BD-R media, the PP-50BD’s accurate disc burning means organisations can rely on the readability of their archived discs for decades.“

Allowing unsupervised production with less risk of failure, Epson has drawn on its expertise in manufacturing robots to develop the patented AcuGrip robotic arm, which makes certain that only one Blu-ray disc, CD or DVD is grabbed at a time – even if they are stuck together. To ensure trouble-free operation for years to come, the PP-50BD has a dust-proof body and minimal moving parts.

The PP-50BD couldn’t be easier to use – it’s controlled from the front, and its LED system shows the ink level status for each individual colour. The included Total Disc Maker software is intuitive and user-friendly too, with pre-defined templates and images, so users don’t need to be experts.

Enabling convenient installation on a shelf or desktop, the fully-stackable PP-50BD has a compact footprint and measures only 38cm wide, making it one of the smallest disc publishers on the market.

The Discproducer PP-50BD will be available to purchase from January 2012 with a recommended price of €3050.00 excluding VAT.
