Epson launches two new, quality paper ranges at photokina 2018
Epson has announced two brand new ranges of media: fine art papers and branded media for photo labs. Users will benefit from Epson’s heritage, expertise and superior paper quality.
Fine art papers
The new fine art papers boast an improved colour gamut and have achieved the 60 year or better archival requirement of its Digigraphie standard for top quality work.1
The 100% cotton, acid-free buffered paper comes with either a smooth hot press or textured cold press surface that gives the papers a luxurious feel. Natural white or bright white versions will be available with immediate effect and are supplied in 300gsm weights.
The new papers2 have been extensively tested and are tailored to work with Epson’s SureColor SC-P and Stylus Pro printers and with the various generations of Epson UltraChrome inks. The results with SureColor SC-P printers in particular offer an expanded gamut compared to the previous generation of cold press and hot press papers. Users will benefit from the ICC profiles and settings incorporated into the drivers of SC-P series printers which make working with the papers very easy and controllable.
The additions offer improved colour density for deep rich colour reproduction and excellent black rendering. The smooth surface is ideal for photographic images and the soft textured option adds interest and depth to fine art reproductions. The natural white option lends itself to great skin tone imagery.
The papers will be available in roll and sheet formats, covering the range from 17 inch to 64 inch for rolls and A4 through to A2 sizes for sheets. The products will be available through the professional Epson Reseller network, as well as consumer outlets for certain formats.
To qualify to use the Digigraphie embossed stamp on a photograph or work of art, users must produce work on Epson printers and run water-based UltraChrome pigment inks, using media that has reached the archival standard of 60 years or more.
Epson Professional Media
Epson’s dry labs and their customers stand to gain from a range of photographic papers being launched under the Epson Professional Media brand with back print. There are Epson branded versions (250gsm) of the following media, available in a range of widths: SureLab Pro-S Paper Glossy, SureLab Pro-S Paper Luster, SureLab Pro Paper Glossy 250, SureLab Pro Paper Luster 250.
Phil McMullin, sales manager for Photo and LFP at Epson UK, says: “The name Epson is synonymous with premium photo print quality and we want our customers and the end users to be able to recognise our brand. They can have confidence that this Epson media combined with our SureLab D700 and D3000 printers, printheads and inks will give them stand out quality results. Presenting the Epson Professional Media brand now on the back of the print is a logical step and gives each print the quality seal.”
The Epson SureLab D700 and D3000 can support a wide range of media surfaces, widths and formats and for the very best results Epson recommends using Epson media like the new branded one. Like all Epson technology, there is a great advantage in using the Epson chassis, printheads, inks and media because together they contribute to excellent results.
