Epson stands firm on commitment to business inkjet technology as HP withdraws from the market

By Epson Blog Team

The only business print segment to have seen growth over recent years is business inkjet, so it may seem surprising that HP has announced its exit from this market, stating its intention to focus instead on traditional laser technology.

HP’s thermal inkjet technology has always been completely different to Epson’s award-winning heat-free Precision Core piezo inkjet technology. Thermal inkjet and all laser technologies require heat during the print process which means that it takes time for the ink temperature to warm up and cool down, making it difficult to continuously eject ink at speed. In contrast, Epson’s piezo technology requires no heat – so there is no waiting time for heating and cooling – and ink is continuously ejected at high speed. No heat also means that Epson technology uses less energy and produces less CO2.

Epson inkjet is the future of sustainable business printing

We’ve invested heavily into building our own Precision Core factories, which has enabled the rapid expansion of our inkjet technology across consumer, office, commercial and industrial printer ranges. This means that we also control our development and production facilities to ensure both quality and efficiency.

This coupled with the fact that the business print industry is looking for better, more sustainable technologies, and that Epson heat-free technology is by its very nature more sustainable, means that it’s the ideal solution answering this need for sustainable, reliable, low-cost business print. It’s also why we remain 100% confident and committed to our Precision Core technology.

Growth opportunities for our partners

In an expanding business inkjet market segment, we see HP’s withdrawal as a growth opportunity for our channel partners.  While laser technology may make some steps towards becoming more sustainable, the growing climate crisis is encouraging businesses to take immediate measures towards decreasing their carbon footprint – and Epson’s heat-free business inkjet technology offers them the opportunity to take significant strides towards this goal.
